DIY Family Portrait and your Tripod

A friend of mine asked where to set up her tripod for your Mother’s Day DIY photo session.

Some things to think about:

1) Do you like close ups or do you like capturing your surroundings as well?
2) Are you doing them indoor or outdoor?
3) Will they be posed or candid? If they are candid and you are moving around, you will need to place the tripod farther away. If they are posed you can get behind the camera and see what the portrait will look like with the rest of your family before you run to join them.
4) You may want to set things up ahead of time and grab a helper to sit/stand to help you compose and figure out the placement. Doing this when everyone is ready and waiting can annoy family members.
5) Like I’ve said before, you don’t have to buy a tripod. You can use a table and books or stack things (safely) to make your own “tripod.”

Hi friends! I am an accredited portrait photographer who specializes in helping women to feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful in front of my camera. I would be honored to be your photographer.
