Over 40 and Fabulous
I had the honor of photographing one of my besties of 10 years last week. We met for the first time on a “mom date” through church with our littles in tow….
Our littles are not so little anymore and and we have done a lot of life together. She walked with me through the most difficult time in my life (and more recently, the happiest!). She is real. She is vulnerable. She listens and encourages. She is brave, smart, funny, an amazing writer and yoga instructor and has a beautiful heart. Not to mention that she is stunning.
I am honored that she trusted me to get in front of my camera to celebrate being over 40….and this is what she had to say…..
Brooke-
“I’m awesome at dodging cameras and you’ll never find me posting a selfie. I cringe when pictures are needed for work and family pictures are a great source of anxiety. That’s why I won’t lie or sugar coat this post.
(Ironically or a blessing by God) One of my best friends of ten years, Jenn Martin, is a talented photographer who is always coming up with new ways and reasons to capture the world through photography.
When she came up with the idea of running a campaign for photo sessions celebrating women over the age of 40, I absolutely supported her and nudged her to bring her vision to life.
Fast forward a couple of months later and she’s asking me, her camera dodging-yoga attire wearing-hair bun friend, to pose all alone to celebrate being over 40. I love her but don’t love being the center of a photo. My anxiety and lack of confidence around photographs taunted me as I decided … What to do???
I LEANED in. I didn’t dodge, rather I confronted the me who would rather hide and trusted Jenn to lead the way. She’s talented, compassionate, joyous and understanding – a true professional and artist. I leaned into trust, trust of Jenn and the process. Doing it for the experience, documenting ME through photography for my kids and 80 year old Brooke, celebrating the years where parenting and adulting seem to be the hardest and there are more “stormy” days than “sunny”.”
Thank you, Brooke, for trusting me. This is why I do what I do.
Thank you to the talented NADYA KH for the beautiful hair and makeup.
